Borrowed from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (wylʾstn' /⁠wirāstan⁠/), [Book Pahlavi needed] (wylʾd- /⁠wirāy-⁠/, to arrange, prepare, cultivate, restore), from Proto-Iranian * (apart) + *Hraz- (to draw a line; to direct); see Persian آراستن (ârâstan, to arrange; to decorate) for more on the root.
