Old Armenian

Etymology

Unknown.[1][2] Perhaps a Georgian-Zan borrowing: compare Georgian ურდ-უმ-ი (urd-um-i, cowshed dung-hatch), Svan ჰურდ-უმ (hurd-um, chimney) for which Fährnich reconstructs Proto-Kartvelian *urd-, unaware of the Armenian.[3] For other roof terminology borrowed from Kartvelian compare ձեղուն (jełun), ցխինք (cʻxinkʻ).
