արոյր
Old Armenian
Etymology
Borrowed from Parthian 𐫡𐫇𐫔 (rwδ /rōδ/), from Proto-Iranian *Hrawdáh (“copper, brass”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hrawdʰás. The prothetic ա- (a-) is a regular inner-Armenian development as Armenian phonotactics do not allow a word to start with a ր- (r-).
