шӯрр
Kildin Sami
Etymology
Borrowed from Karelian šuuri,[1] from Proto-Finnic *suuri, from Proto-Germanic *stūra- (whence German stur and Dutch stoer) or from Indo-Iranian (see Proto-Indo-Iranian *stʰuHrás); in either case, ultimately derived from Proto-Indo-European *sth₂uh₂rós.
Cognate with Ter Sami and Akkala Sami шурр (šurr) and Skolt Sami šurr. Relationship with Northern Sami stuoris is uncertain due to the fact that it is derived from Proto-Germanic *stōraz, which is not directly related to *stūra- because of different root vowels.
