Etymology

Borrowed from Ottoman Turkish چوربه‌جی / چورباجی (çorbacı, a military rank of the Janissaries, literally soup cook). Equivalent to чорба (čorba, soup) + -джия (-džija). Cognate to Macedonian чорбаџија (čorbadžija) and Greek τσορμπατζής (tsormpatzís).
