Etymology
From Common Turkic *toŋuz, Proto-Turkic *toŋuŕ (“pig”). Cognate with Kazakh доңыз (doñyz), Kyrgyz доңуз (doŋuz), Crimean Tatar domuz, Karachay-Balkar тонгуз (toñuz), Kumyk донгуз (doñuz), Bashkir дуңғыҙ (duñğıź), Tatar дуңгыз (duñgız), Azerbaijani donuz, Turkish domuz, Turkmen doňuz, Uzbek toʻngiʻz, Uyghur توڭگۇز (tongguz), etc.
