Inherited from Old Ruthenian льстити (lʹstiti), from Old East Slavic льстити, лестити (lĭstiti, lestiti), from Proto-Slavic *lьstiti. By surface analysis, (archaic or rare) лесть (lestʹ) + -ити (-yty).
