By surface analysis, аш (aş, “food, meal”) + ҡаҙан (qaźan, “cauldron”).
From *ašqazan (“stomach”) – apparently a Central Asian innovation.
Cognate with Tatar ашказан (aşkazan), Kazakh асқазан (asqazan), Karakalpak ас қазан (as qazan), Uzbek oshqozon, Uyghur ئاشقازان (ashqazan), Turkmen aşgazan (“stomach”).
