Noun

асисте́нт • (asistént) m (feminine асисте́нтка, relational adjective асисте́нтски)

  1. assistant professor (entry-level academic position in higher education)
  2. a skilled assistant, e.g. a director's assistant, a surgical assistant, an assistant conductor, etc.
  3. assistant (software tool)

Usage notes

In Bulgaria, an асистент (in the academic sense) may either work as a lecturer at a university, or as a researcher at a science institute. They have not completed all habilitation criteria, such as defending a doctoral thesis and having a significant body of work. Progressing to гла́вен асисте́нт (gláven asistént, chief assistant professor) requires a doctorate.
