From Koine Greek συναίρεσις (sunaíresis), from Ancient Greek συναιρέω (sunairéō), συναιρῶ (sunairô, to draw together, contract), from συν- (sun-, with, together) + ἀϝείρω, ἀείρω, αἴρω (aweírō, aeírō, aírō, to take up, draw; bind, attach), from Proto-Hellenic *aweřřō, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂wer-, equivalent to συναιρώ (synairó) from συν- (syn-) + αίρω (aíro). Or from συν- (sun-, with, together) + αἱρέω (hairéō, take, grasp), from Proto-Hellenic *héřřō, from Proto-Indo-European *ser- (to bind, tie together).
