Etymology
From Old Persian *bātiyaka (literally “phiale”), from *bāta (“wine, must”),[1] whence also Middle Persian bʾtk' (bādag, “wine, must”). Compare Persian بادیه (bâdiye, “large bowl”). Furnée compares βάτος (bátos, “measure for liquids”).
