GitHub is a web-based hosting service for version control using Git mostly used for source code. It offers all of the distributed version control and source code management (SCM) functionality of Git as well as adding its own features.[1]
It offers since November 2011 [2] also a self managed own premises or on a cloud provider version, GitHub Enterprise, with similar functionalities to GitHub's public service.
