PAYNE. (Lieutenant, 1845.)

William Henry Payne passed his examination 5 Dec. 1837; and, after having served for some years on the Mediterranean and Home stations, as Mate, in the Gorgon steamer, Capt. Wm. Honyman Henderson, Camperdown 104, flag-ship of Sir Edw. Brace, and Blazer steam surveying-vessel, Capt. John Washington, was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant 1 Sept. 1845. He was then appointed to the Heroine 6, Capt. Chas. Edmunds, fitting for the coast of Africa, whence, in 1847, he returned to England.
