Mineral, Virginia

Mineral, Virginia is a town in the U.S. state of Virginia. In the 2020 census, 470 people lived in Mineral.[1]

At 1:51 p.m. on August 23, 2011, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake was centered 5 mi (8.0 km) south-southwest of Mineral. The center of the earthquake was 3.7 mi (6.0 km) underground.[2] According to the Associated Press, it "forced evacuations of all the monuments on the National Mall in Washington and rattled nerves from Florida to Canada".[3] The roof of Mineral's town hall collapsed. three of the six schools in the county were heavily damaged. No one died, and some people had minor injuries.[4]
