Hurricane Celia struck the Corpus Christi, Texas region in 1970. The hurricane caused almost $930 million in damage. Celia was the strongest Atlantic hurricane of 1970. It was the costliest storm in Texas history at the time, though other hurricanes since then have caused more destruction.
