Arrondissement of Grenoble

The arrondissement of Grenoble is an arrondissement of France. It is part of the Isère département, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its capital, and the prefecture of the department, is the city of Grenoble.

History

When the Isère department was created in 1790, the arrondissement of Grenoble was part of that original department.[2]

Geography

The arrondissement of Grenoble is bordered to the north and northeast by the Savoie department, to the east and southeast by the Hautes-Alpes department, to the south and west by the Drôme department, and to the northwest by the arrondissements of Vienne and La Tour-du-Pin.

It is in the southern half of the department and is the largest arrondissement with an area of 4,714.7 km2 (1,820.4 sq mi),[3] and the one with more people living in it with 758,956 inhabitants and a density of 161.0 inhabitants/km².[4]
