History

West Rembo traces its origins to the colonial-era settlements of San Nicolas and Malapadnabato, both originally part of Pateros.[4] The first settlers are believed to be Chinese traders who established their settlement near the banks of the Pasig River. The Ermita de San Nicolas de Tolentino was established by the Augustinian friars in the late 17th century, during the Spanish colonial era of the Philippines.[3]
West Rembo was established in 1956. In 1965, it was transferred to the administration of Pateros through Proclamation No. 481 issued by President Diosdado Macapagal.[5] It was later transferred to Makati in 1986, when President Ferdinand Marcos issued Proclamation No. 2475.[6] In 2023, as a result of a Supreme Court ruling, it was among the ten barangays turned over to Taguig that won its boundary dispute with Makati.[7]
