Tender is the fifth studio album by folk trio by Lady Maisery - Hazel Askew, Hannah James, and Rowan Rheingans.
Lady Maisery
Lady Maisery, best known for creating a stunning vocal harmony by way of their songs and ballads, won the nomination for the "Horizon" BBC Radio 2 Folk Award 2012 along with the "Best Debut" at the Spiral Awards 2012. It was the trio's 2011 debut album, Weave and Spin that launched them with a considerable feedback inviting favorable reviews from the daily, The Independent, which rated it as an "Album of the Week".
Tender
Lady Maisery returned with Tender in 2022, their first studio album in six years. Tender was recorded in Sheffield, in collaboration with producer Adam Pietrykowski. In both sound and song, it is a radically different record to any Lady Maisery had made before.
The album comprises original songs written by Lady Maisery, as well as interpretations of works by Björk, Tracy Chapman, and Lal Waterson. The songs include arrangements of electric guitar, percussion, harp, harmonium, banjo, accordion, viola, and organ bearing voices that unite in strength, harmony and message.
Tender is an examination of female experience from many sides.
