Roberto Ibarra García is a Chilean diplomat. He served as the Chilean ambassador to Peru from 2014 to 2020. He also served as consul-general in Munich, counselor at the embassy in Italy, ambassador to Malaysia, among other positions.[1]

Career

Ibarra studied law at the University of Chile and later entered the Andrés Bello Diplomatic Academy. He later studied International Relations at the University of Belgrano, Argentina.[2]

Throughout his career he has held important positions. Among them he was Consul-General of Chile in Munich, Germany (1990-1991), Counselor at the Chilean Embassy in Italy (1992-1994), Minister Counselor at the Chilean Mission to the European Union in Brussels, Belgium (1997-2000), ambassador to Malaysia (2000-2004), concurrent in Vietnam and Brunei and consul-general in Bolivia (2006-2009). In 2011 he assumed the Chilean representation in Canada.[2]

Within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the diplomat held responsibilities as director of South America and general director of Foreign Policy. During his career he has been decorated by the governments of Argentina, Brazil, Italy and Portugal.[3]

In 2011 he assumed the Chilean representation in Canada. On March 24, 2014, he was appointed ambassador while serving as the Chilean representation in Canada. He left the previous position and took over as Chile's ambassador to Peru.[4]
