- 1909 – The Lethbridge Viaduct, one of the largest railway structures in Canada on the Canadian Pacific Railway near Lethbridge, Alberta, opens.
- 1969 – Kansas City Southern Railway's Southern Belle passenger train service between Kansas City, Missouri, and New Orleans, Louisiana, makes its final run.[1]
- 1973 – The 16th Street Mission station in San Francisco's Bay Area Rapid Transit system opens.
- 1984 – Electrification between Kingston and Beenleigh in Brisbane is commissioned.
21st century
- 2004 – Progressive Rail leases former Wisconsin Central Railway track in northern Wisconsin and begins operations on the line under its subsidiary railroad, Wisconsin Northern Railroad.
