- 1807 – The first railway passenger service begins in England. The cars are drawn by horses.
20th century
- 1908 – The Washington, Baltimore and Annapolis Electric Railroad extends passenger service from its existing Washington-Annapolis route to Baltimore, Maryland.[1]
- 1945 – Virginian Railway takes delivery of its first 2-6-6-6 (class AG) steam locomotives from Lima Locomotive Works.[2]
- 1952 – The Seibu Shinjuku Line extension from Takadanobaba to Seibu-Shinjuku Station opens.
- 1986 – Conrail makes its initial public offering of stock starting at $28 per share.[2]
21st century
- 2007 – The rebuilt Takahatafudō Station, serving the Keiō Line and the Tama Toshi Monorail Line in Japan opens.
