- 1866 – The Atlantic and Pacific Railroad in the United States is chartered by a special act of Congress.[1]
20th century
- 1903 – Construction begins on the Baghdad Railway with the 200 km segment between Konya and Bulgurlu in the Ottoman Empire (present day Turkey).[2]
- 1955 – Canadian National Railway opens the branch between Hillsport and Manitouwadge, Ontario.[3]
- 1957 – The Musquodoboit Railway ends steam locomotive operations with a round trip between Dartmouth and Upper Upper Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia, behind CN number 3409.[4]
- 1996 – Ron Burns becomes president of Union Pacific Railroad.[5]
