- 1840 – Henry H. Rogers (pictured), American financier who helped finance and build the Virginian Railway, is born (d. 1909).
- 1873 – Chesapeake and Ohio Railway completes its line between Huntington, West Virginia, and Richmond, Virginia.[1]
- 1909 – The final spike is driven in the construction of the Virginian Railway at Glen Lyn, Virginia.
- 2000 – The Termini Station, in Rome, opens.
