19th century
- 1870 – Delaware and Hudson Canal Company leases the Albany and Susquehanna Railroad, which extended from Albany to Binghamton, New York.
- 1888 – Grand Trunk Railway acquires the Northern and Northwestern Railway.[1]
- 1896 – Erie Railroad purchases the New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio Railroad.[2]
20th century
- 1910 – The Cleveland Short Line Railway, a subsidiary of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway, opens its first 9.73-mile (15.66 km) section of track from Rockport to Marcy, Ohio, and a junction with the Lake Erie and Pittsburg Railway.[3]
21st century
- 2013 – The platforms at Togoshi-kōen Station, on the Tokyu Oimachi Line in Shinagawa, Tokyo, Japan, are extended from three car lengths to five.[4]
- 2015 – A Metrolink train on the Ventura County Line strikes a pickup truck at a level crossing in Oxnard, California, injuring 30.[5]
