- 1861 – An Act is passed to authorize the construction of the Blane Valley Railway in Scotland.
- 1900 – An Act is passed to authorize the absorption of the Aberlady, Gullane and North Berwick Railway in Scotland by the North British Railway via a stock transfer.[1]
20th century
- 1929 – The Ghan begins operation in Australia under its current name.
- 1986 – A spectacular train accident at Paris' Gare de l'Est kills 1 and injures 56. This disaster happened only a few weeks after another Gare de Lyon train accident on June 27; SNCF's president Philippe Rouvillois was forced to resign.
