- 1869 – The Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway is formed through the merger of the Michigan Southern and Northern Indiana Railroad and the Lake Shore Railway.[1][2]
- 1885 – The Meriden and Cromwell Railroad, a Connecticut predecessor of the New Haven Railroad, opens.[3]
- 1964 – Freight transportation on Alaska Railroad between Fairbanks and Anchorage resumes after repairs from an earthquake that occurred on March 27.[4]
- 1992 – The first section of Manchester Metrolink (pictured), in Manchester, England, opens.
