- 1826 – The Mohawk and Hudson Railroad, the first railroad built in New York state, is incorporated.
- 1837 – J. P. Morgan (pictured), American financier who helped to finance United States Steel Corporation and worked against Jay Gould and Jim Fisk for control of several railroads in New York, is born (d. 1913).
- 1882 – The St. Clairsville and Northern Railway, connecting St. Clairsville to Barton, Ohio, is incorporated.[1]
- 1892 – Canada Atlantic Railway leases the Central Counties Railway, which connected Glen Robertson and Hawkesbury, Ontario.[2]
