In May 2006, Barlage earned his degree in Psychology from Saint John’s University (Minnesota).[17] Following his graduation from SJU, he took on a role in baseball as the assistant general manager for the Alexandria Beetles of the Northwoods League.[18]

Barlage spent five seasons with the Cavaliers organization from 2008 to 2013, serving as the Vice President of Sales and Service.[19] He then left the Cavaliers organization, and Barlage held the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Sales Officer for the Phoenix Suns with his tenure commencing in the 2013-14 season. In this role, he supervised the team's premium and ticket sales, as well as marketing efforts. Before rejoining and becoming a part of the Cavaliers, Barlage dedicated one season to the Suns and two seasons to the Charlotte Bobcats, focusing on suite and premium seating.[20] Barlage returned to the Cavaliers in September 2017 as President of Business Operations.[21][22][23][24][25][26]
