Monika Lüke (born 24 January 1969 in Bochum) is a German international law scholar. She served as the Commissioner for Integration of the State of Berlin and was Secretary General of Amnesty International in Germany.[1][2]

Career

Monika Lüke studied for her doctorate degree at the Humboldt University in 1999. Her doctorate research topic was "Immunity of state officials in cases of serious human rights violations".  After earning her Ph.D.,  she worked as a coordinator for migration and refugee policy of the Evangelical Church in Germany in Berlin and Brussels.[3][4] In 2008, she joined the Society for Technical Cooperation where she coordinated human rights projects in Asia. Lüke was appointed Secretary General of Amnesty International in Germany in 2009 and served until 2011 when she was removed from the position which she suspected was due to her new baby.[5] In September 2012, she was appointed the Commissioner for the State of Berlin.[6] She resigned from the position in February 2015 to join Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) as head of program for labor and social standards in the textile and clothing sector in Asia. She served in this position until 2018 when she resigned.[7]
