The Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety is a federal government ministry in Pakistan that was established in 2020. The ministry is responsible for formulating and implementing policies and programs aimed at reducing poverty, improving social safety nets, and providing assistance to vulnerable segments of society. The current minister is Shazia Marri.

History

The ministry's primary focus is on poverty reduction and social safety net programs, including the Ehsaas Program, which is the flagship program of the ministry. The Ehsaas Program is a comprehensive poverty reduction initiative that includes a range of interventions, such as cash transfers, education and health initiatives, and livelihood support programs.[1]

The ministry also oversees several other programs, including the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), the Waseela-e-Taleem Program (WeT), the Waseela-e-Sehat Program (WeS), and the Kafalat Program.[2] These programs provide financial support to low-income households, improve access to education and health services, and provide assistance to the elderly and disabled.[3][4][5][6]

The Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety works in close collaboration with provincial governments, civil society organizations, and international development partners to implement poverty reduction initiatives across Pakistan.[7][8]
