Mina Sue Choi (Korean: 최미나수; born 21 February 1999) is a South Korean model and beauty pageant winner who won Miss Earth 2022.[2][3] She is the first Korean to win Miss Earth and one of the Big Four international beauty pageants.[4]

Early life and education

Mina Sue Choi was born in Sydney, on 21 February 1999[5][6] and lived there until she was seven years old. Growing up, she lived in South Korea, Canada, the United States, and China.[7] Choi attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she majored in communication studies.[8]

Pageantry

Miss Korea 2021

On October 15, Choi won Miss Gyeonggi Incheon 2021, a Miss Korea regional preliminary.[9] She participated in Miss Korea 2021 on November 16 and finished 1st runner-up.[10][11]

Miss Earth 2022

On November 29, Choi represented South Korea in Miss Earth 2022 and won.

During the preliminary events, she won the following awards:

  • 1st place, gold medalist(s) Swimsuit competition (Asia & Oceania)[12]
  • 1st place, gold medalist(s) Beach wear competition (Air Group)[13]
  • 1st place, gold medalist(s) Long gown competition (Air Group)[14]
  • 3rd place, bronze medalist(s) Resort wear competition (Air Group)
  • Miss Mexico, Pampanga 2022

Choi became the first Korean to win the Miss Earth title and one of the Big Four international beauty pageants.[15][16]

In her capacity as Miss Earth, Choi visited Belgium,[17] Thailand,[18] Indonesia,[19] Japan,[20] India,[21] Singapore,[22][23] Vietnam,[24][25] several cities and municipalities in the Philippines,[26][27] and her native country, South Korea.[28]
