Metropolitan Youth Symphony is a Youth orchestra from Portland, Oregon, U.S.A, founded in 1974 by Lajos Balogh with a handful of students. It is now one of the largest youth orchestra groups in the country with about 500 students, twelve conductors, and fourteen ensembles with different levels of experience.[1][2] The symphony accepts young musicians from kindergarten through early college age at all levels of experience. It's main goal is to challenge students to learn and perform music in a friendly and rewarding atmosphere.
The current music director of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony is Costa Rican-born conductor and violinist Raúl Gómez.[3]

- Jazz Band, conducted by Greg McKelvey
- MYSfits String Ensemble, conducted by Raúl Gómez
- MYSticks Percussion Ensemble, directed by Michael Roberts
Metropolitan Youth Symphony ensembles perform a dozen public concerts each year in the Portland metropolitan area.[4] They also offers an outreach music program to schools throughout Oregon, visiting up to twenty public schools each year.[5]
