Lichtenstein Castle (German: Schloss Lichtenstein, Afrikaans: Lichtenstein Kasteel) is a castle in Hout Bay, Western Cape, South Africa, built on the Karbonkelberg, modelled after Lichtenstein Castle in Württemberg, Germany.
Details
It was built by German-born South African businessman Reynier Fritz. The construction started in 1986 and completed in 1998.[1]
Fritz later converted the Castle to a guest house before dying there. After his death, his widow Christine sold the property for R23 million to an unknown Russian Businessman.[2] Allegedly haunted, the castle is one of the areas most popular attractions. The castle has 12 en suite bedrooms, a library, a banquet hall, a swimming pool, a helipad and a natural waterfall on its 8.6 hectares.[2] The castle can be rented out as a venue.[3]
