Henry Porcher Lance (1832 – 19 May 1886) was an New Zealand cricketer. He played in two first-class matches in New Zealand for Canterbury in 1864 and 1865.[1]

Life and career

Lance was born in Somerset in 1832,[2] and was educated at Winchester College and Brasenose College, Oxford.[3] He went to New Zealand in the 1850s with his brother, James Dupré Lance, who became an MHR.[4]

In his first first-class match, which was also New Zealand's inaugural first-class match, Lance captained Canterbury against Otago.[5] He was prominent in horse-racing circles in the Canterbury region as a rider, owner, breeder and official.[4]

Lance married Mary Bradshaw in Christchurch in November 1860.[6] Mary died in August 1875.[7] He married Eleanor Robinson in Christchurch in January 1883.[8] He died of heart disease in May 1886.[4]
