Harriet Stevens is an English international lawn and indoor bowler, first capped by the England team in 2018.[1][2][3]

Bowls career

Indoors

Harriet made the EIBA Junior International team in the 2018 home international series in Nottingham. She remained in the team the following year, 2019, which was her last year of eligibility. Harriet made the EIBA Women's Senior team the same year.

In 2018 Harriet and teammates from Exonia collected a Silver medal in the EIBA Womens Triples loosing to Adur Club.

2019 was a strong year for Harriet as it saw her win 2 mixed national titles. Harriet won the EIBA National Mixed Fours [4] with Exonia teammates Cassidy Hampton (nee Lenton), Kieran Kniverton and partner Sam Tolchard. Harriet went on to win the EIBA National Mixed Pairs only a few days later with partner Sam Tolchard[5]

Outdoors

Harriet has been competing at the BE Nationals for over a decade now. In 2015 she won the national Bowls England National Championships (mixed fours) title with Devon teammates Sophie Tolchard, Lee Haywood and Ryan Whitlock. Stevens returned the following year in 2016 and reached the final of the Bowls England National Championships (women's pairs) with Kings B.C teammate Cassidy Hampton (nee Lenton), narrowly loosing out on the title by one shot on an extra end against club teammates Sophie Tolchard and Natalie Chestney. In the same year Harriet went on to win the Bowls England National Championships (women's junior pairs) this time teaming up with Sophie Tolchard to beat Somerset in the final.

2018 saw Harriet named as Junior International Captain. Harriet lifted the trophy at a home series for the ninth consecutive year.[6] Stevens captained the team for the next 3 years up until her final year in 2022 (played then due to the pandemic).[7] 2022 was the first of the combined junior mens and womens international series. The Junior women team went on to lift the title once again along with lifting the combined gold with the men.

Stevens bowls for arguably England's top club, the Kings Bowls Club in Torquay and in 2019, Stevens won two national titles at the English national bowls championships; the junior singles and the fours, while eight months pregnant.[8]

In 2021, she won the triples with Sophie Tolchard and Emma Cooper[9] and repeated the success two years later, at the 2023 Bowls England National Finals but this time partnering Tolchard and Nicole Rogers. This was her fifth national title[10] and in between the triples championship gold medals she won the pairs with Tolchard at the 2022 Bowls England National Finals.[11]

In November 2023, she won the silver medal in the pairs with Nicole Rogers, at the prestigious Hong Kong International Bowls Classic.[12] The pair made history by becoming the first English women to reach the final at the Hong Kong Classic.[13]

Personal life

Her partner is fellow English bowls international Sam Tolchard.[8]
