Cherinet Hariffo is an Ethiopian-born activist who is passionate about education and advocating for refugees. Hariffo is an outspoken advocate of refugee rights and equal access to education. He fled his own nation at the age of nine in quest of safety and educational possibilities. He faced difficulties in his academic studies as a result of the limited educational opportunities available for refugee children during his critical developmental years. Empowered by his own experiences, Hariffo advocates for and pursues the rights and interests of refugees, internally displaced persons, young people from impoverished countries, and disadvantaged communities. He is a Stunt supporter of accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 2030) and increasing the participation of young people in political leadership. Hariffo works with civil society organizations (CSOs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government entities, academic institutions, and state agencies to develop and champion inclusive and accessible high-quality education for all.

Early life

Cherinet Hariffo was born to an Ethiopian father and an Eritrean mother. He was born in the Ethiopian town of Moyale, on the border with kenya. He spent his childhood in various locations of Ethiopia and Kenya.

Education

The road to school for Hariffo's has been rocky. During his early years, his academic pursuits were frequently sidetracked by unforeseen circumstances. He attended MMoyale FulGospel Churches of Kenya Primary School and Gash Abdi Academy (Nama Bori) before graduating from Lower Merion High School in 2021. Following his relocation to Kenya, he was accepted into the Valley bridge primary school. After enduring adversity and completing grade seven, he was forced to withdraw from school because he lacked the resources necessary to meet his fundamental educational needs.

Social advocacy

Cherinet Hariffo has actively participated in several youth groups, such as African Youth Architect, Their World, and the African Union Youth Group. In addition, Hariffo has held the position of Youth Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the Institute for Conscious Global Change. He has also actively associated with the non-governmental organization (NGO) and NGO committee for Sustainable Development within the United Nations  DGC. Hariffo has actively championed equitable access to education for all through his involvement in many organizations and participation in meetings and high-level engagements. He has participated in several panel debates and negotiations. Throughout his career, he has engaged with various heads of state and leaders of multilateral organizations, always advocating for high-quality and easily accessible education for all individuals.
