Engine No. 1 Carson & Mills Park Railroad

The Carson & Mills Park Railroad (C&MP) is a 2-foot gauge railroad operated by the Carson City Railroad Association (CCRA).[1] It is located in Mills Park in Carson City, Nevada, United States.

History and description

The C&MP first opened July 4, 1981. It was built using rail from the defunct Carson and Colorado Railway and volunteer labor, including trustees from the nearby Nevada State Prison.[2][3] Initially a 0.5 miles (0.80 km) loop, the track was further expanded in 1982 to the current 1.25 miles (2.01 km) length loop-to-loop track, complete with grade crossings and crossbucks at footpaths and a gravel road in the park.

The C&MP operates from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. It has operated each summer season since 1981 except the summer of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[3]

Rolling stock

The CCRA runs the railroad with a replica diesel switcher, Engine No. 1. It is painted in a green-and-yellow livery.[4] Two Narragansett-style excursion cars and one gondola car are used for carrying passengers.
