Abdul Karim Ahmad (1937/1938 – 11 February 2021) was an Indonesian ulama who served as the Chairman of the Riau Islands Indonesian Ulema Council.

Early life
Ahmad was born on 1937/1938 as the eldest child and son of the five children of ulama Tuan Guru Haji Ahmad and his second wife, Khadijah binti Sulaiman.[1][2] His father was the first person to establish an Islamic-based educational institution in Bengkalis and the founder of Al-Khairiyah boarding school.[1] His brother, A. Hamid Ahmad, was a politician who served as Regional Secretary of Bengkalis Regency from 1995 until 2003.[1] His paternal half-sister, Mariah binti Ahmad, was the first wife of ulama Zakaria bin Muhammad Amin.[3]
Career
Ahmad started his career by serving as the Head of the Tanjungpinang City Religious Court, followed by chairing the Riau Islands Indonesian Ulema Council.[2] As chairman, he traveled outside the city together with administrators of the Indonesian Ulema Council.[2]
In 2019, Ahmad participated in elections and invited the public to keep society conducive and safe and avoid actions that damage democracy.[4] He thanked the government, the Indonesian National Army, the Republic of Indonesia Police, election organizers and the community for helping the 2019 elections run safely and smoothly.[4]
Ahmad married and had four sons, a daughter, and 15 grandchildren.[2] He died at his residence in Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands, on 11 February 2021at age 83.[2]
