Probably from or related with Arabic أَشْحَطَ (ʔašḥaṭa, to remove, to put or send away). Similar senses are found in Egyptian Arabic شحط (šaḥaṭ, to put/throw dough in the oven), North Levantine Arabic حشط (ḥašaṭ, to throw), Moroccan Arabic (Tangier) شعط (šʕaṭ, to smash).
