Etymology
Calque of German Proletarier aller Länder, vereinigt euch (literally “working men / proletarians of all countries, unite!”), a phrase which comes from Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels' The Communist Manifesto and is one of the most famous rallying cries of communism.
