Etymology
Backformation from Dutch varken (“pig”), either by reinterpreting the singular as a plural, or from the actual plural varkens by rebracketing it as vark + -ens. From Middle Dutch varken. Ultimately from an old diminutive derived from Proto-Germanic *farhaz.
