Likely originated from trollbacka (now dialectal). The change from b to p likely influenced by pack. Compare Danish troldpak, Norwegian trollpakk. For the second half of compound, see also origin for nattblacka (“nightjar”) and obsolete natbakka (“owl”), aptanbakka (“bat”).
