From Proto-Katuic *tgɔɔl. See also the short form col.
This is a Katuic innovation (at least, in the meaning "eight"), although there are similar forms in Proto-Khmuic *guːl (“seven”) (whence Khmu [Cuang] guːl), Chong [Kasong] kʰnuːl ("seven", through an infixed form).
