Inherited from Ottoman Turkish تضاد (teżad, teżat, “a being or becoming opposed to, contrary to, or repugnant to one another, mutual opposition, contrariety, an antithesis”),[1][2] from Arabic تَضَادّ (taḍādd), verbal noun of تَضَادَّ (taḍādda, “to be opposed to one another, to be contradictory, to contradict one another”).[3]
