Sino-Vietnamese word from 心耳, composed of 心 (“heart”) and 耳 (“ear”). Compare Japanese 心耳 (shinji, “auricle”) and French oreillette (“auricle; atrium”, literally “earlet”). See also tâm thất (“ventricle”, literally “heart chamber”), Chinese 心房 (tâm phòng, “atrium”, literally “heart chamber”) and ngăn (“heart chamber”).
