From Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *sujud (fine-toothed lice comb), possibly borrowed via an intermediary language or existed as *sulod with elision of /l/ becoming /j/ instead of /w/ or /ʔ/. Compare Bikol Central surod and Dupaningan Agta surod.
