Etymology
Inherited from Proto-Slavic *snǫbiti, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)newbʰ- (“to wed, to match”), possibly related to *(s)neh₁- (“to fasten, to thread”). Cognate with Latin nūbō (“to get married”) and akin to Ancient Greek νῠ́μφη (númphē, “bride”).
