slab track (countable and uncountable, plural slab tracks)

  1. (rail transport) Railway track mounted on a concrete (or asphalt) base, without the use of ballast.
    • 2020 July 1, Chris Rayner tells Richard Clinnick, “High Speed 2 is speeding up...”, in Rail, page 65:
      When the railway is built, Phase 1 and Phase 2A will use slab-track. Rayner says this decision has been driven by the tonnages that 18 trains per hour will produce.
