Etymology

From Old Norse skjaðak n, from Old Irish sceïd, from Proto-Celtic *skeyeti (to vomit). [2]

Alternatively, from skjera + aks "a cutting grain ear", not related to the dialectal skjerak (with the same meaning, but from Old Norse skjaðak).

Noun

skjæraks n (definite singular skjærakset, indefinite plural skjæraks, definite plural skjæraksa)

  1. (dialectal) darnel, ray grass
