Cognate with Malecite-Passamaquoddy sips (“a bird, especially a duck”), Abenaki sips (“bird”). Possibly cognate with Massachusett sēsēp (“duck”), Menominee sēqsep (“duck”), Ojibwe zhiishiib (“duck”), Miami šiihšiipa (“duck”), Cree sîsîp/sisip (“duck”).
